Big Turtle Race Day Info

Hey Runners! Here’s what you need to know about this weekend’s race. Please read everything below!!!

Important: Start/Finish Line Location Change

URGENT & IMPORTANT: Venue Change

We were notified by Morehead State University last week that the University had double-booked our start/finish line location, and we were asked to relocate. We’ve been working very hard the past few days and earlier this afternoon were able to get all the necessary approvals for an alternative start and finish line location.

Our new start/finish location will be at the MSU Rec Center. See below for directions and details. We will be located on the right-hand side of the building and will be starting the race at the Eagle Lake trailhead behind the rec center. Parking details for this new location can be found in the following section.

Parking

Parking will be in the MSU Parking Garage. When arriving at the race please park in the parking garage across from the Rec Center. Rec Center will be on your right. Parking garage is on your left. Parking in the garage is free on the weekends. You will need to walk across the street to our location behind the Rec Center.

DO NOT PARK IN THE REC CENTER PARKING LOT.

If the garage is full, you may park in other lots (not the rec center lot) or curbside spots in accordance with MSU Parking Policies.

DIRECTIONS

GPS Location of Start Line

When looking at the MSU Rec Center, we will be at the back right-hand corner of the building. Follow the tall white Next Opportunity Events flags.

GPS Coordinates for Start Line: 38.191333504485506, -83.43142005332015

Thank you for your understanding with this last minute change. It was completely out of our control, and we were not notified of the booking conflict (which was also not our fault) until a few days ago.

Course Changes

With the change in start/finish line we’ve had to make some adjustments to the race routes.

  1. All runners - The first (and last) couple of miles will be on a new trail that we’ve never run on. So this is actually exciting. Click the button below for the map and aid station details.

  2. All runners - In order to get our full distance for the 10 Milers, we are moving the Forestry Ridge Aid Station further up the course. The new location and mile markers are in the aid station sheet linked below.

  3. 50K Runners - The previous route was a little over 32 miles. With the above changes, the 50K route is now at 30.6 miles*.

  4. 50 Milers - The previous route was about 53 miles. With the above changes, we are now at 51.3 miles*.

  5. 10PM Cut Off - This change does allow us to go back to our traditional 10PM cut off for all runners that we’ve since 2017.

Restrooms/Toilets

There are two locations for restrooms at the race site. First, we will have portable toilets at the start/finish line. There are two also indoor flush toilets with running water on the opposite side of the rec center if you want to walk over there to poo in style.

All aid stations EXCEPT Forestry Ridge will have one portable toilet at the aid station.

Drop Bags (UPDATE!!!)

10 Mile runners may NOT have drop bags.

UPDATE: 50K runners may have ONE drop bag at the Big Perry Aid Station (accessed twice).*

50 Mile runners can have drop bags at Terminus and Big Perry Aid Stations. Click the buttons in the section above to view aid station details and the course map.

Drop bags will be brought back to the finish line after the aid station closes. You will be responsible for finding your own drop bag in the pile at the aid stations.

*BIG PERRY DROP BAGS WILL BE LEAVING THE START LINE AT 7:00AM SHARP. DROP BAGS MUST BE DROPPED OFF BY THEN!

Bibs, Timing, & Results

Bib assignments will be made on Thursday this week. Bibs must be worn on the front of your person. If we can’t see your bib at the finish line, you don’t get a finish time!

Results will be streamed live to Ultrasignup HERE.

Crews & Pacers

REMINDER: NO CREWS OR PACERS FOR ANYONE.

Carry Your Own Cup or bottle

Aid stations will not have cups for water, Gatorade, or Coke. All runners need to carry their own bottle or cup.

Final Notes

All other race details such as start times, check in times, etc. remain the same.
